Tada...Blue Shutters

Sorry for the delay in seeing the "after" pictures for our shutters, but I didn't take a picture right after Brent was finished painting them. Everyday this week it was too dark when I got home from work to snap a shot or it was pouring rain, but I finally got it done.

So, it is too "blue" and not enough "navy"? Or just right? (The door hasn't been painted yet. It will be a bright teal color unless it completely overwhelms us, in which case it will be painted to match the shutters.)

Here's what the shutters looked like when we bought the house. They just didn't "pop" enough off the brick for my taste.

Planning Exterior Updates

After a little hiatus from home updates, the hubbs and I decided it was time to get moving again. Yay!  (Probably more exciting for me than for him considering I'm blogging at the moment and he is painting.)

First, I wanted to add a little "fall cheer" to our front steps so we headed out to pick up some mums and a couple pumpkins to set out. While at Home Depot for the flowers, we decided to also go ahead and pick out some paint colors for our front door and our shutters since I HATE our  current puke-green shutters and door.

We grabbed our super bright yellow mums, a dark blue paint for our shutters, a bright blue paint for our front door and a few paint supplies.

As you can see, we enjoyed our visit to Home Depot. It was especially exciting when we went to check out. Our cashier dropped our quart of bright blue paint top down onto the floor. The paint slowly started pouring out and she couldn't get a hold of the cap to pick it up. Instead, the entire can of paint poured out onto the floor and into her hands. It was terrible. As we went back to get our paint order refilled, all I could think was, "Thank goodness I didn't  drop it."

Brent is painting the shutters as we speak and although it is brighter in color than we expected, I think it will work. We'll post photos later so you can help us decide.

Until next time...

Halloween Craft

Thanks to Pinterest, there are a slew of Halloween craft ideas floating around in my head. I'm not sure that I'll really get around to making them, but I'm loving the inspiration.

Graduation Party Inspiration

There's a young man (I use young loosely) graduating in December and since I will be helping prepare the celebration I've started looking for some inspiration. Here's some of the item's I've started coming across.

Now the real challenge will be mashing up the graduation theme with the Christmas decor. I think it will make for a great party. As long there is some seriously awesome food, I think the graduation boy will be happy.

Craft Time: Halloween Wreath

The start of October and the beautiful fall weather got me in the mood for some craft time. I started with a new Halloween-themed yarn wreath.

With just a roll of navy blue yarn, a few pre-made orange flowers from Michael's, a playful, glittery spider and about an hour of my time and I had a new wreath for our back door. Love!

Until next time...
