Simple Solutions: 10 Minute Art

This morning I finally found a use for two more of my IKEA frames! (I used the first one here.) After about 10 minutes, I now have two more pieces of artwork up in my guest room for zero dollars. Nice, right?

Here's what I did and what you can do too:

Grab 2 frames (I used the 2 IKEA frames)

Grab something to use as "art"
I used a watercolor painting that I made forever ago and cut it up into smaller pieces, but you could use a remnant of fabric or a page out of a book or magazine.

Tape the artwork to the mat to hold it in place and put the frame back together.
If you don't have a mat already included in with your frame like mine, you can pick one up at Hobby Lobby or make your own. A really cheap option would be to use a piece of white poster board.

Hang your new artwork up on your wall

Here's how mine turned out:

Is there a wall in your home that needs some artwork? Save a few dollars. It's easy enough to make your own, don't you think?

Until next time...

Better Late Than Never

Most people will tell you, "well, it's better late than never," but when you have family coming to stay in your guest room "better late than never" doesn't really apply to the delivery of your window coverings. Late stinks.

My parents came into town this past weekend and their arrival was the deadline for getting some window treatments up in the guest room. The hubbs and I decided on some curtains from West Elm to add a bit of pattern into the guest room. Unfortunately, the item we wanted was sold out online and in our local store so I had to call a handful of stores to finally track down the four window panels that I needed. I was pumped...until the tracking information told me it was being delivered on Monday. (Mom and Dad were leaving on Sunday. So not helpful.)

So although Mom and Dad just got some classy sheets over the windows while they were here, our West Elm curtains are now up, in place and looking good (if I do say so myself) in the guest room.

I guess we need another set of visitors now.

Until next time...

Hmmm...

Has anyone noticed the accent pillows YHL used in their blue guest room? Look familiar? Hmmm... Seriously, please get out of my head.

At least the curtains I ordered from West Elm aren't a blue circle pattern. Now if they would just get here already.

Use Whatcha Got

If God gives you lemons, make lemonade...

If God gives you random leftover home decor items make art? (Eh, it kinda works...although I'm sure he didn't want me to buy the random leftover crap to begin with.)

Anyway, here's what I was up to on Sunday:

Project 1:

  • Woven Placemat
  • IKEA silver frame (been waiting to be put to use)
  • small IKEA mirror (1 of 4)
  • Left over Guest Room wall paint
  • Paper from IKEA frame

All of this eventually became a new mirror for our guest room.

Project 2:
  • Old Target Artwork (was originally in our apartment bathroom)
  • Left over white trim paint
  • Pottery Barn Keys
  • Gorilla Glue
All that equals some fabulous new art for our living room that I love.

Yay for simple free artwork completed in a hour! Woop, Woop.

Until next time...

My Closet, Maeby's Room?

I didn't really love the idea of having my closet in our guest room, (I mean, that requires walking...geez) but now I'm pretty pumped about it. It's like having a huge walk-in closet. Not to mention, I'm in love with the paint color and I'm glad I get to visit it on a daily basis.

Overall, the system is working fairly well. (Although I do need to add some window coverings before the neighbors get to know me a little too well.) I have a closet to myself, a bed to hide shoes under, and a whole dresser dedicated to me. In the future I'd like to add a mirror or two (or three) over the dresser, a cuter light beside the bed, a rug and a fabulous headboard, but it's working for now. Well, all except for the fact that my dog is trying to take it over. This is what I came across the other night when we were heading to bed...

She was not pleased when I made her get down off that new guest bed (Thanks, Mom & Dad!) and come to our bedroom. She moped enough that I started to feel a little guilty. I'm in charge. She's just a dog. I'm in charge...

Here are a few pictures of the guest room as it is currently. I'm pretty much in love with it. I can't wait till the funds are available to start adding to it...she'll be a beauty for sure.

At some point there will be a headboard includedin this picture...a DIY creation by yours truly.
The beautiful orchid was a house warming gift
from one of my besties, Megan. Love!

The bucket chair my sweet hubby bought me
on Valentines day fills up this lonely corner.

Just in Case

I'm basically posting this because I'm scared that if I don't "you know who" will. I got to maintain my cred, yo.

So here's the break down of our guest room plan. (Starting at the top left and moving clockwise. Try to keep up.)

  • The lamp is just an inspiration cause it rocks. (Can't remember where I found it.)
  • The chandelier is a homemade item featured on the funky junk interiors blog. I'm pretty much in love with it and hope to make my own.
  • The headboard is another DIY project we hope to tackle. I found that one on the kara paslay designs blog. (She even teaches you how to make it. Thanks, Kara.) We will be doing the bed with all white bedding to contrast with the dark wall color.
  • The pillows are actually just one pillow and its A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I'll definitely be grabbing a couple of those from Target.
  • The chair my sweet hubby already bought me.
  • The dresser will be painted white and will receive some fabulous new knobs. The yellow ones are in the running.
  • And the paint you've already seen...on multiple blogs.

Now, if you will excuse me, I must go check as many blogs as possible to see if I've unknowingly stolen anyone's design plan.

Until next time...

Wow.

So if you want to see our guest bedroom color, please check out Young House Love. I cannot believe how similar it is to the color we've picked out. I seriously feel like we are peas in a pod. I'm just hoping they don't use white bedding with yellow accents. That will be just too much for me to handle.

Here's our "Moonlit Pool" paint color:

And here's their "Plumage" paint:

Pretty darn close, huh?

Wow. I may need to start posting all my ideas as soon as I come up with them so you guys don't think I'm just a copy-cat. I promise I decided these things before spotting them online. You believe me, right? Right?

(For a better  understanding of this post, reference my Get Out of My Head post from this weekend.)
