Pillows, Pillows, Curtains & Pillows

Thanks to the always wonderful "birthday money", Brent and I were able to make some major progress in our master bedroom. There's a ton more to be done, but it has been fun to get it started. The hubbs and I have shopped for everything together so far which always makes things a little more entertaining.

We did most of our damage at West Elm (our favorite store) where we grabbed three pillows, two window panels and three plates (not for the bedroom). Then we finished up at Target where we snagged new sheets and two more pillows. Yes, more pillows.

So here's what we don't like about the original master bedroom design:
  1. Too many empty walls
  2. Too neutral
  3. Too matchy-matchy
  4. Not cheery/fun enough
  5. Too dark

Now, here's what we are wanting to achieve in the master makeover:
  1. Lots more color combos
  2. More fun patterns
  3. Lots of wall art
  4. Brighter
  5. Casual, cozy & welcoming
Step 1: Kick up the Color. It all started with the West Elm ruffled-circle quilt that the hubbs and I picked out a while back in the "poppy" red color. Then we painted our new side table "Hallowed Hush" blue. Our goal this weekend was to continue our new color theme throughout the room and to bring in a bit of pattern.

Here are some pictures of our efforts so far:

It already feels much more playful than where we started. We're digging it. How about you?

Better Late Than Never

Most people will tell you, "well, it's better late than never," but when you have family coming to stay in your guest room "better late than never" doesn't really apply to the delivery of your window coverings. Late stinks.

My parents came into town this past weekend and their arrival was the deadline for getting some window treatments up in the guest room. The hubbs and I decided on some curtains from West Elm to add a bit of pattern into the guest room. Unfortunately, the item we wanted was sold out online and in our local store so I had to call a handful of stores to finally track down the four window panels that I needed. I was pumped...until the tracking information told me it was being delivered on Monday. (Mom and Dad were leaving on Sunday. So not helpful.)

So although Mom and Dad just got some classy sheets over the windows while they were here, our West Elm curtains are now up, in place and looking good (if I do say so myself) in the guest room.

I guess we need another set of visitors now.

Changes in the LR

I have bad news.

After spotting the adorable yellow World Market curtains, I went to order them online just to find out that they do NOT carry them in the 96" length that I needed, even though the sales person told me they did.  It was very upsetting. I was left with the big decision of whether to use the yellow curtains by adding extra of fabric to the bottom of the panels or to move on to another set of curtains. It was a big decision. Huge.

So Saturday afternoon the choice was made.

I dig them. You?

Living Room Progress

The hubby, furbabies and I have been in our new home for one week now and although there are still a couple "off limits" areas, we have settled in quite a bit. Today we were able to make some more home progress by buying purchasing our first washer, dryer, lawn mower, and weed-eater. It was tons of fun as you can image. (I'll talk more about that later.) Luckily, we were also able to pick out a couple more exciting items (well exciting for me, probably not that exciting for Brent) that are moving us one step closer to pulling our living room together.

Basically, I've already made a detour from my original living room design plan. Shocking? Not really. It's what I do. A girl like me can't walk through any home decor store or flip through any design magazine without coming up with a totally new idea of the "perfect room". This time the design deviation came from spotting this pretty lady at World Market.

Emma Curtain | World Market

I never even knew I liked yellow (in home decor) until I found this curtain. I never really considered it as a main color option, but I'm really pumped about it now. All of a sudden, grey and yellow are the bomb and I'm going with it.

So I haven't purchased these curtains yet, (waiting to use my coupon, girl) but it is now the jumping off point for our living room design. What we did get to buy today, thanks to my sweet in-laws, is this new jute rug.

Looking good right? Our other new edition is the yellow pillow. I love the combination of the natural woven rug and casual yellow pillow with the more elegant grey pillows. The most interesting design usually stems from unexpected combinations and these pillows do just that for me. I just can't wait to get the curtains in place. Bring on the grey and yellow!

Yeah, that last picture has nothing to do with the new living room scheme, but they are just too darn cute not to include. If only were that well behaved all the time.

Until next time...
